Microsoft MapPoint Technology
SpatialPoint uses MapPoint technology to build and deploy location-based services and applications
MapPoint Web Service is a hosted XML Web service with a SOAP API that SpatialPoint uses to add location-based functionality to your application. It provides high-quality maps, as well as the location-finding and routing capabilities.
Benefits of MapPoint Web Service technology include:
-
Cost effective investment -- Because MapPoint Web Service is hosted and maintained by Microsoft, customers do not have to maintain geographic information system (GIS) databases, acquire and maintain cartographic and other content, or invest in their own hosting infrastructure.
-
Service Level Commitment -- As part of the MapPoint Web Service commercial agreements, Microsoft provides a Service Level Commitment with at least 99.9 percent availability and API performance response of less than one second per map, as measured inside Microsoft’s data centers.
-
.NET connection -- MapPoint Web Service is integrated with Microsoft .NET, a set of Microsoft software technologies for connecting information, people, systems and devices. Microsoft .NET enables a high level of software integration through the use of Web services—small, discrete building blocks of applications that connect to each other and to other larger applications over the Internet.
-
Integration with other Web services -- As a Web service, MapPoint Web Service can be easily combined and integrated with other XML-based Web services, making it easier for enterprises to gain the full business value of incorporating location data into their applications and processes.
MapPoint 2006 offers a comprehensive solution for integrating maps, demographics, and geographical data into your business solutions. SpatialPoint uses MapPoint's object model to automate and extend MapPoint functionality or to embed MapPoint functionality into custom applications.
